Group Settings
The Settings tab on the Groups page is where you will find configurable options specific to the group. This includes:
- Group Name: a field to edit the group name.
- Group Type: the type of group. There are two possible options - static and dynamic. Group type cannot be edited once created.
- iOS App Track Location: when enabled, SimpleMDM will track the location of iOS devices in the group that have the SimpleMDM mobile app installed and configured to allow location tracking.
- Group Priority: this setting is used by SimpleMDM to determine how conflicting configurations applied to a device from multiple groups will be handled. For example, there are some profiles where only one profile of that type can be installed, such as App Restrictions. If a device is a member of multiple groups that each have a different App Restrictions profile, SimpleMDM will install the profile from the group with the lower priority number set. 0 = highest priority, 10 = lowest priority.
- Custom Attributes: this section allows you to assign custom attribute values to devices at the group level. For more information on custom attributes and how they work, please see this article [link KB here]. Custom attributes are currently only available on static groups.
Group Actions
The Actions button on the Groups page allows for a number of actions to be performed on that group. These actions include:
- Clone: clone the group. The new group will retain all existing settings and configurations of the group being cloned.
- Delete: delete the group. Devices that are members of the group will lose the configurations applied via that group (note: this does not delete the devices from MDM).
- Push Assigned Apps & Media: triggers an install command for all apps and media assigned to the group.
- Update MDM Apps: triggers an update command for all MDM-installed apps assigned to the groups.
- Update Munki Catalog: when Munki-type apps are assigned, this triggers Munki’s managesoftwareupdate command to run and check for changes to the Munki catalog for any macOS devices in the group.
- Sync Profiles: triggers a check and configuration push for all profiles assigned to devices via the group. This may install, update, or remove profiles based on the group profile assignments if devices’ installed profiles do not match the assigned profile set.
