Groups - Managing Profile Assignments (Preview)

The Profiles tab of the Group page is used for viewing and managing profiles assigned to the group. This is the primary way to assign profiles to segments of devices en masse, streamlining the configuration process.

Assigning Profiles to a Group

  1. Navigate to Devices > Groups and click the group name in the list.
  2. On the right-side of the screen, click the Profiles tab.
  3. Click into the search bar and start typing the name of the profile you want to assign. Alternatively, you can search for profiles by profile type - to do this, click the filter button in the search bar and select “Type”.
  4. From the search, a list of available profiles will appear in the dropdown. Click the checkbox or profile name in the dropdown to add it to your group.
    1. Quick tip: If you are adding multiple profiles at once, click the checkboxes - this will keep the search dropdown open to quickly add more devices. If you are only adding one profile quickly, click the profile name - this will close the dropdown immediately after adding the profile.
  5. Once finished adding profiles to the group, click “Review” and save the changes. The profile assignments will be updated immediately for all devices in the group upon saving.

Removing Profiles from a Group

  1. Navigate to Devices > Groups and click the group name in the list.
  2. On the right-side of the screen, click the Profiles tab.
  3. Under the Profiles tab of the group, check the box next to the names of the profiles to be unassigned.
  4. Click the “Unassign” button near the top-right corner next to the assignment search bar. This will stage the profiles to be removed from the group.
  5. To confirm the changes and update the profile assignments, click “Review” and save the changes. Unassigned profiles will be removed from devices in the group immediately upon saving.

When do profiles get installed?

New profiles assigned via assignment groups will be installed on devices under the following conditions:

  • When a device enrolls into or is assigned to the group.
  • When an admin selects Actions > Sync Profiles on the group.
  • When a change is made to one of the assigned profile (via the profile settings page) and saved (this triggers a configuration push to all devices with the profile assigned).
  • If another action has not already occurred to trigger the profile sync, devices will receive the profile assignment changes the next time they check in with MDM (which happens approximately every hour automatically, assuming devices are online and responding to APNS).
