Apple iOS does not currently allow apps to install or update while single app mode (or lock) is enabled on a device. Furthermore, Apple iOS does not currently alert SimpleMDM once an app has successfully installed. As a result, SimpleMDM does not have the ability to automatically enable single app mode once the necessary app has been installed.
The suggested workaround is as follows:
- Create an initial device group for devices to enroll to. This group should be configured to automatically install the necessary iOS apps upon enrollment.
- Create a secondary device group that has single app mode configured.
- Once a device has enrolled and has the necessary apps, reassign the device to the secondary device group to enable single app mode.
