Device Action: Refresh Cellular Plan
The Refresh Cellular Plan action instructs a device to query a carrier's eSIM server for active cellular plan profiles. This allows the device to discover or update available eSIM plans from the carrier. The action requires a carrier-provided eSIM server URL, which must be obtained from the carrier separately.
Apple documentation for the RefreshCellularPlans command can be found here:
Supported platforms
The Refresh Cellular Plan action is available for iOS and iPadOS devices running iOS 13.0 or later. The device must be cellular-capable with eSIM support, and must be enrolled via device enrollment (not User Enrollment). Supervision is not required.
This action is not available for macOS, tvOS, or visionOS devices.
How to refresh a cellular plan
- In SimpleMDM, navigate to the device's Device Details page.
- Click the "Actions" menu.
- Select "Refresh Cellular Plan".
- Enter the carrier's eSIM server URL in the "Carrier eSIM URL" field.
- Click "Refresh".
The device will query the specified eSIM server URL for available cellular plan profiles.
Notes
- The eSIM server URL must be obtained from the carrier directly. This URL is specific to each carrier and is not provided by SimpleMDM or Apple.
- The device must be online and have cellular hardware that supports eSIM. Not all cellular-capable devices support eSIM configuration management.
- If the device's cellular stack is busy, the command may fail temporarily. Retrying the action later may resolve the issue.
