Device Action: Shut Down device
The Shut Down action remotely powers off a device immediately without prompting the user. This can be used to power down unattended devices, kiosks, or devices that need to be taken offline.
Apple documentation for the ShutDownDevice command can be found here:
Supported platforms
The Shut Down action is available for supervised iOS and iPadOS devices running iOS 10.3 or later. The device must be enrolled via device enrollment (not User Enrollment).
How to shut down a device
- In SimpleMDM, navigate to the device's Device Details page.
- Click the "Actions" menu.
- Select "Shut Down".
- Confirm the action when prompted.
The device will shut down immediately without prompting the user.
The Shut Down action can also be used as a bulk action from the Devices list to shut down multiple devices at once.
Notes
- Once shut down, the device will not be reachable by SimpleMDM until it is powered back on. A passcode-locked device will not rejoin Wi-Fi until unlocked, which may delay communication with SimpleMDM after being powered back on.
- This action requires the device to be supervised. The "Shut Down" option will not appear for unsupervised devices.
