System Requirements

SimpleMDM can run on macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS devices which support Apple's MDM and Device Management protocols.

For the best experience with SimpleMDM:

We recommend the following:

• An active Apple Business or Apple School Manager account
• Devices to be enrolled are:
  • in active support by Apple; for a list of devices Apple considers Vintage and Obsolete see Apple: Service and Support information for Vintage and Obsolete products 
  • associated with Apple Business/Apple School Manager
    • For organizationally owned devices they should be registered with Apple to utilize Automated Enrollments
    • For BYOD devices Account Driven Enrollment and either federated or Managed Apple Accounts
  • running actively supported builds of Apple's operating systems
    • As of September 2026: 27.x and 26.x OSes, as well as macOS 15 and iOS/iPadOS/tvOS 18

SimpleMDM can and does run on older Apple OS builds, Vintage and Obsolete Apple Devices, and doesn't require access to Apple Business or Apple School Manager to function.

There are limitations and functionality differences that will vary based on Enrollment methods, operating system versions, and hardware versioning.
